It turns out that the beast on the Nugent signet ring may be a cockatrice rather than a griffin. Which is gutting really as Andrew Collins wrote an article about sighting of griffins in Brentford in 1985 (well the team play at Griffin Park, you know). Bang goes that synchronicity (for the moment). Anyone know anything about heraldry and know what the significance of a cockatrice is? P.S. At random, Nick took down a book from my bookshelf to read on the train called “Pip Pip” by Jay Griffiths (close to griffin??). Amazingly she reviewed James Hillman’s (see earlier post) book “The Soul’s Code” in Resurgence magazine. (Jeez, I’m really struggling tonight – should be able to do better than that.)
