I must admit that I, like millions of others, stopped watching it after Mulder left – proving that when all was said and done it was his show. And what was it all about? After the alien viruses, the shape shifting super-soldiers, the abducted sister – when all Mulder’s circus animals had all deserted him, he articulated his wish to believe as: “I want to believe that the dead are not lost to us. That they speak to us as part of something greater than us – greater than any alien force. And if you and I are powerless now, I want to believe that if we listen to what’s speaking, it can give us the power to save ourselves.” Go figure…
