Ok, now that Dylan has been mentioned I have something to talk about. My favourite “losing his marbles” Dylan story was recounted by Irish Pope-lover Bono. Apparently they were collaborating on some record or other and it was pretty fast and loose. They’d play a few chords, scribble down a few lyrics and then record it live. It was going as well as could be expected when two egos collide when Bob had a surge of inspiration and rattled off three verses in response to some chords that Bono was playing. Suitably impressed they laid down the track only for Bob to pipe up “No, we can’t use that”. Thinking it was simply a case of artistic pique, Bono asked why. “I recorded the same song in 1974…” came the reply…
